CASE STUDY
VMG 53 TRIMARAN
Working at the meeting point of design, engineering and production, we made sure the interior design intent held up within the structural, systems and weight constraints of a performance multihull. We coordinated closely with the naval architects, systems engineers, interior designer, specialist suppliers and the yard’s production team.

OUR ROLE
INTERIOR DESIGN DEVELOPMENT & PRODUCTION ENGINEERING

01 | THE BRIEF
FAST ENOUGH TO RACE, COMFORTABLE ENOUGH TO LIVE ON.
VMG set out to build a trimaran that sails like a performance boat and lives like a cruiser. Christophe Anglay's styling defined the look: a light, open saloon, warm oak and soft sage, with long sightlines out to the water.
Our job was to turn that concept into an interior the yard could build, without adding weight the boat couldn't afford to carry. We went through extensive weight tracking and research and development over every kilogram we put into the interior.
02 | THE CAHLLENGE
FOUR THINGS TO BALANCE AT ONCE
WEIGHT
EVERY GRAM COUNTED
Panel build-ups, cores and fixings were chosen to hit the styling and to be as light as possible. We did weight studies on all options before implementing it into the boat.
BUILDABILITY
DRAWN FOR THE YARD
Parts were engineered around the yard's own tooling and construction methodology, so the workshop could build straight from the drawings.
DESIGN INTENT
TRUE TO THE STYLING
Proportions, lines and materials were carried through to the final details.
LIFE AT SEA
USEABLE UNDERWAY
The ergonomics and design intent was at the forefront of every design decision.
03 | WHAT WE DELIVERED
FROM CONCEPT TO PRODUCTION
We made sure every design decision worked within the structural, systems and production demands of a high-performance multihull.
As the project moved into production, our remit expanded to include interior drawing quality assurance, coordinating the design team's workload. Together, these made sure each drawing package reached the shop floor clear, consistent and ready to build.
